As believers you and I are to live by faith in God. Not only for certain things, but all things. Hebrews 10:38 says, “The Just [those made righteous by God] shall live by faith.” (NIV) That simply means that as children of God we are totally reliant on Him for all things—provision, health, rest, salvation, etc. All things! Many people misunderstand what it means to live by faith. They think it is when their hands are tied and God is the only option. Living by faith is usually scary or unsettling for such people when in reality it’s not scary at all. What’s scary is putting faith in anything or anyone that is not God. Things like a job, healthy eating, good behavior, etc.
Living by faith is simply knowing that every good and perfect gift you receive is from above (James 1:17 NIV), and that regardless of the company name on your paycheck, your doctor’s credentials, or your good behavior.
To live by faith is not some scary way of living that you start after you’ve done all you can in a situation. For those in Christ it is the only way of living. It is being totally reliant on God when you have a job and when you don’t. When you are healthy or when you are sick. Etcetera, etcetera! The just shall live by faith! When you live by faith as God intended , no matter what the devil throws your way you will not be shaken. That is because you are aware that God supplies all of your needs (Philippians 4:19), not the middle man or women he might use to get them to you.
Happy people, live by faith and you will not be moved when trouble comes. You will be like “a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes and its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8 NIV) I want that, don’t you?!
