Mercy was never meant to be extended towards Satan. He is the only enemy to whom you should never show mercy. For every arrow he throws your way, throw three back at him—one for the Father, one for the Son, and one for the Holy Spirit. And if it will make you happier, throw even more!
In life, there will be times when it seems the enemy has declared war against you, but don’t be intimidated by his threats and mayhem. Learn to declare war right back at him. In Philippians 1:28, Paul wrote to the church of Philippi, “Don’t be intimidated by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved by God himself.”
The story of David and Goliath is a perfect picture of this in the scriptures. Just before David defeated Goliath, Goliath yelled, “Come over here, and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals.” David replied, “You come to me with sword, spear, and Javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord Almighty—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!” (1 Samuel 17: 44 – 46)
While Satan might not be coming after you with physical sword, spear and Javelin— he is with spiritual ones. You usually refer to them as fear, condemnation, hopelessness, confusion, depression, lack/poverty, barrenness, sickness, etc. But don’t be deceived by the picture the devil paints. You have spiritual weapons too and they are more powerful than all of his. They are the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God, and prayer in the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 6:13 – 18)
Beloved, do not be afraid when weapons of destruction are launched in your direction. Fight back! Open your mouth and counter every attack of the enemy with the truth that is God’s word, and like David, confidently declare your victorious outcome. This will be a sign to your enemy that he will be destroyed in battle and that you will be saved. Only believe.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds”
(2 Corinthians 10:4)
