If you are hungry for freedom, in one way or another, you should eat of the word of God. For the entrance of His word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple (Psalm 119:130). God’s words are life to those that find them and health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4: 22). To understand this truth, is to not let them out of your sight, but to secure them within your heart (Proverbs 4:21). Again, the words of God are life to those that find them—health to their flesh (Proverbs 4:22)!
The word is a lamp unto the feet that discover it, a light to their path (Psalm 119:105). It is alive and powerful and sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. Yes, the word exposes our innermost thoughts and desires (Hebrews 4:12). It is like a fire; like a hammer that breaks rocks (Jeremiah 23:29). It is eternal and eternally strong! The grass will wither, the flowers fade, but the word of God will last forever (Isaiah 40:8). You need it everyday. Yep, everyday of your life. For man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). So eat it. Breath it. Speak it. Live it. For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish – so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater – so it is with God’s word. It will not return to him empty, but will accomplish what he desires and will achieve the purpose for which he sent it (Isaiah 55: 10 – 11).
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” – Joshua 1:8
